Go to www.zophar.net/joy.html....Here, download "JoyToKey"...This EASILY allows any game controller to map button presses to key strokes....Simply set-up "Z" and "/" and there ya go...I have a Playstation Controller hooked up to my USB port, and the L1 and R1 buttons work like a charm for the face-off....

I'm glad to see you guys coming up with these ideas. Before too much longer, I'm going to order some parts to build a couple of face-off buzzers. Pics will be posted.

Hi Gang. I've mad some great buzzers and have only about $10 in to it. I had an old two button joystick lying around that I tore apart. I kept all the electronics intact, but added about 15 ft of old phone cord to the joystick switches, so I could get them a distance from the computer. I picked up some wood pieces at a craft store and built a plunger and a base for the switch. Two make the joystick work with the game, there are several utilities out there that will convert joystick button presses into keystrokes. The one I have used can be found at : www.deinmeister.de/jct_e.htmAll you have to do is setup the Z and / buttons. I've posted a picture here or my buttons www.teachmis.com/buzzer.jpgEmail me at dheier@hotmail.com if you would like some help with a similar project. I used the old sytyle joystick, but any type of usb or gameport joystick should work.

Oooh, now THATs cool. I've been looking around www.happcontrols.com at their arcade buttons, and have seen other peoples "MAME Machines". They hacked up old keyboards and soldered wires from certain places on it to the buttons. I'd like to do this, but I know I'd end up screwing it up somehow lol. I actually have a practical use for this...Class Feud, A School Game of Family Feud, and this year we're having podiums. So face-off ideas are floating around in my head. Only problem is that the event is in a week. I'm thinking of taking the simple route, and just mounting a PSX controller into a wooden box with the L and R sticking out. The buttons will be close, but I can just put a barrier between the two.

Alright, I gotta ask - because it sounds like a FANTASTIC idea. I could be asking a really stupid simple questions, or a really complex difficult one. I know very little about "making" things for my computer - so please, please bear with me here...
How in the world did you hook up a PS2 controller into your PC? That sounds like the perfect idea to use. I'm doing a show Friday the 19th, and it would be an awesome way to do the face off. Thanks.

Check our your local Radio Shack for a device called "PSX to USB" it allows you to hook up any official Playstation Controller to this device, which has a USB cord that goes to the computer. This device is made specifically by Radio Shack, and it'll only run you about $10. This device was originally made for use with Nintendo, Playstation, and Super Nintendo emulators for a natural feel for playing, but it obviously worked for our cause. For the event, we taped down the Controller to a desk, along with a Direct to USB Gamepad...Worked out great.
Also, you'll need the previously mentioned "Joy To Key" program to translate button presses as keyboard strokes.

A Price is Right reference!! Yay!
Sorry, in case you can't tell I get excited easily.
That's awesome that you are able to do that. I hope your project turns out great.

I built a buzzer set out of wood. It actually turned out half-way decent. I'll post some pictures on my website when I get a chance.

I really want to make one but have absolutely no knowledge of electronics whatsoever. That, and I don't want to take my 10-button joystick apart. EDIT: That is, of course, presuming you have the electronics for the buzzer system you made. If not, I can make a buzzer set shell with some plywood at the home center. Thanks!

Ok - I'm at a loss. I've got the PSX to USB installed. I've downloaded JoyToKey and tried (poorly) to configure it to work with the program, and I just can't do it!!! Arrrgh. My frustation is probably just stupidity - lol. Can you possibly give me a hand and walk me through this? Thanks alot.

Nevermind the above - I found another program that works just as well.
