Dawson's 80's set? Besides the carpet and adding the lollipop bushes, it remained the same from the 1976 premiere until they ended the show in '85. Try this... take a wide shot screengrab from a '79 show (or a '78 show if you still have one) at 3pm and compare it to a screengrab of the set from the early '80s at 9am. There is one other set change in the '80s; if you look at the yellow ovals behind the contestants, you will see birds on the bottom and plants (or whatever they are) on top. In the '80s, it was the other way around.

In the '80s, it was the other way around. Right, I know they switched the cross-stitch patterns but they're not visible on my drawing. So one couldn't view my graphic and tell whether or not it was an early or late rendition of the Dawson Feud set.

Yeah, I'll have the family backdrops as part of the opening as I always do. I haven't drawn them up yet. But that's not what I'm talking about. Here's your quote: I love the detail you paid attention too. It looks exactly like the 70s set. I like Dawson's 80s set better though. So without seeing the family backdrops, as they're not part of the set picture I posted here, you cannot tell whether the picture is a rendition of the earlier Feud set or the later. Yet, without seeing the backdrops, you somehow draw a conclusion that it's the 70's set and then say you like the 80's set better. That's what I can't understand and what I need you to help me figure out.

Yet, without seeing the backdrops, you somehow draw a conclusion that it's the 70's set and then say you like the 80's set better. That's what I can't understand and what I need you to help me figure out. I came to that conclusion from seeing the gameboard's teal color and a red-orange cyclorama on your current set picture. The '80s had a brighter orange hue and a light blue (not teal) gameboard similar to what it looked like in 1988. And let me settle this once and for all... when I said I liked the 80s set better, I did not mean I preferred the lollipop tree and pastle carpet. I just like the way the set looked (not sure if there was a change or not) in the 80s BEFORE the lollipop trees. I did like the pastle carpet though. As I said in the first paragraph at the top of page 3, take a screengrab of the '78 set (which is what your picture reminds me of) and compare it to a screengrab of the early 80s set (as seen at 9amCDT) you'll know what I'm talking about.

Oh, okay. Thanks for explaining that for me! Sometimes you have to spell it all out for me.
The graphics for my game are by no means final. I'll probably change some things here and there and take into consideration some suggestions you may have.

Just for kicks, I did try to apply the new graphics to the old software. All I can say is that I'll have to redo most of my work on this game. And that's fine with me...with a new version number it SHOULD be different!
Sorry for not posting in a while. I've really been swamped.

Well, I've started working with FFPS 5.0. While it's slow going, I'm already ahead of myself in quite a few ways when compared to the progress I've made with the original FFPS. Now that I know a lot more about Flash, it's quicker and easier to do the same things I did before.
I should start a blog someday instead of doing this but if you don't mind me rambling a little bit...
So far I've got a game board functioning. It brings up a question file and displays the game board, ready to reveal those answers. You can still use the I and O keys to switch from the close-up camera to the full set camera. This time, when you reveal an answer, it doesn't automatically zoom back in. I though some people could possibly use that feature.
I had the strikes set up so a single press of the X key would signal all strikes instead of using the b, n, and m keys. Then again, I don't really like the computer automatically choosing which strike icons need to show. Plus, I don't think I can give the board operator the ability to cut the buzzer off short anymore by doing that. So I might just stick with what everyone knows. What do you guys think?
When the bank is updated after revealing an answer, I have a slight flicker animation when the numbers change. It's a small addition but one I think tops the game board view off nicely.
I'm still using the same sound effects for the panels flipping over. I don't think there's much of a need to change them although the animations for the flip panels themselves are a little different. I plan on making the flip panels animate even better than 4.0.
Overall I'm pleased with the graphics and how they work when animated. At first I though the colors were too bland but they actually match the original set pretty well.
So those are my latest rambles for now!

I like having full control of the strikes...sometimes people give an answer right at the buzzer, and we have to buzz them again if it's wrong (with the same strike value). And I also love that we can control the strike duration. Love the idea of the flicker, although it would be really great if somehow we didn't have to wait for the bank to update before awarding the points left or right.

I'm working on setting the points transfer sequence up so that once you flip the last answer, you can immedietely push the left or right arrow key. Instead of the bank not updating after the button is pressed, it would update this time around and award all the points of the question to the side you choose. Yep, I still want to keep that delay..."just like it appears on the show." (I know you're tired of hearing that by now)
