Did anyone see the Combs feud today? They shown the guy who turns the board. And I saw that there we handles on each side of the digital board.

I did see that episode...very interesting to know that they are guys actually spinning that big board around. It's amazing how simple a lot of the game show technology really is!

No I actually didn't,10 years of feud watching and I finally know how they turn the board. Dude, we just had a thread about this not too long ago! :-) Sorry you missed it. From what I understand, three people work back there. Apparently, someone actually works from inside the large trilon board and two others work outside of it. I have no idea what jobs they all perform.

I had another question for you. Was the board operator being brought out because of any kind of malfunction back there? Do you remember the reason why he was brought out?
Thanks.

He was brought out b/c a man wrote in to Ray about the show and asked how they turned the big board. Ray introduced his "brother" and he peaked out from behind the board. In the close-up, you could see the board in detail.

I hate I missed it then! If I had recieved my capture card only a day earlier, I would have caught it. Other than the handles, were there any other notable details worth mentioning?

[/img]
I remember them doing that back in the original run, and based on the screengrab above, it looks like the digital board never had LED lights like I once thought -- they look like something similar to the scoreboards. Yet another myth of mine debunked. At least I know the truth now, because I was too young to notice something like that the first time around. It's people like him who are really missed (at least by me) on game shows -- everything's computerized anymore. I know that makes the games cheaper to produce, but there was a classic charm of someone actually doing something behind the big boards of those shows.

Thanks for posting those screenshots. I appreciate that.
I'm not sure exactly how the characters on the electronic display board work but somehow each pixel is mechanically flipped with one side black and the other side yellow. The yellow is reflective and can look illuminated so I don't blame you for thinking they were LEDs.
If you'll notice with the FFChallenge software, I tried to draw the main bank and the family scores in a way that they would look similar to the show. It's hard to capture the real thing sometimes but I try!
