Just out of curiousity, has anybody noticed that this season on Karn's Feud, the Double Round is completely meaningless? When a team wins both Single Rounds, the Double Round is automatically given a question with a very low total score (usually under 100) so that it's impossible for a family to win in three rounds.
When both families win one Single Round each, the Double Round usually goes between 150-200, because nobody will win with it. Once again, this brings everything down to the Triple Round like Louie's Feud.

The round that has tripled point/dollar values have almost always been the deciding factor in a game. Yes, but last year there were several occasions where the game was won in the Double Round. This year this hasn't happened once.

When you really think about it, the family who wins the game isn't always the family who guesses the most correct answers. Because of multiplying the value and stealing factor, the "smartest" family doesn't always win. I think the strategy is in placing the best family members towards the end. That way, the player with the quickest response time can gain control of the Double and Triple rounds, making the chances of winning the higher-stakes rounds better.
I think what we're seeing, though, is how lower point Double rounds amplify this characteristic of the game. Is it fair? That's questionable. But it's the main reason why I loved the 400-point SSSSDT format the best.

I think it is set up that way because the producers want the game to be four rounds..if they can "force" that to happen without getting themselves in trouble, they'll do it. With such a limited amount of time these days for shows due to commercials, they just want to get everything in without feeling rushed. Also, if the game ends early, they'll have a lot of time to fill. Richard Karn is a great host, but he still has trouble (IMO) stretching or speeding up the game as needed.
