I read on a website that Richard Dawson was actually fired for sexual harrasment. Does anyone now if this is actually true? I also heard that he married one of his contestants. Thanks for the info all!

He was never fired. There were some big wigs that made attempts to get him to quit, but it never worked. When the show was cancelled in...88, was it? ...and the show was brought back for the CBS run, Dawson was not offered the job as host.

Oh, well. I was only off by 3 years. A lesser person would edit the post. I will not, but I will stand corrected.

Why did they go BACK to Dawson after Combs? You would think they would want a younger looking face after Ray, wouldn't you?

According to the E! True Hollywood story on Family Feud as well as a handfull of other sources, the '88 version of the Feud, which changed over to Family Feud Challenge and The New Family Feud, was dropping in ratings. Their feeling was that some kind of change, like a host change, was needed to improve those ratings. That would give them something to tell the network so they would buy the show for another year.
Richard was asked to do it again because Richard, in their eye, was the show's bread and butter. He was the original host and he was well-known and liked. So, if they brought him back, they're bringing in a big part of Family Feud back.
Unfortunantly, their thinking was wrong; Richard wasn't as funny as he was before, he was barely audible, times had changed, and it just didn't work out.
What I *really* want to know is if the show's producers wanted Richard to lose 30 lbs. when he came back to host Family Feud, they why in the heck did they ask Anderson to host the show when it returned in '99?

Also, it has been mentioned that when CBS brought back Feud in '88, they wanted Richard to host it, but Goodson wouldn't stand for it. They respected his opinion and allowed another host to be searched for. Goodson had said that the only way Richard would ever work for his company again was "over his dead body." In fact, Richard didn't return to MGP until after Mark Goodson died and his son took over the company.

Thanks for that. I forgot about that tidbit!
But I never thought they even considered asking Richard to come back at all. Didn't Goodson nip that in the bud before any considerations were made?
Going back to the first post on this thread, I've never heard of any kind of sexual harassment suit at all.

If I remember what was said on the E! THS correctly, it was only CBS that wanted Richard back. Goodson didn't under any circumstances. CBS gave in and passed on Richard.
