Another suggestion would be is we could change the text displayed when you first start FF (not FFC) such as instead of it saying "Family Feud" we could have it say whatwe want it to say suchs as "Christmas Party Family Feud", and on the big board.

Dude, the words "FAMILY FEUD" already barely fit on the message board all by itself. Even if there were a way for me to program that option into the game, how are you going to fit the rest of that text on it?

Even if there were a way for me to program that option into the game, how are you going to fit the rest of that text on it? Truly. I mean, the widest word they had on there was "OPRYLAND" (sans quotes), and that took up the whole length of the board. I think the only feasible option for something like that would be to put it on the logo itself (before the digital board). In fact, I think that might work if you can find some way to warp the text. BigJon might be able to help you out in that department. Come to think of it, that might be the best option if you're going to do something like that. This might get the people who want a custom digital board logo off of your back. Personally, I wouldn't even bother with it. It wasn't done on the Dawson version, IIRC.

Personally, I wouldn't even bother with it. It wasn't done on the Dawson version, IIRC. Don't take this the wrong way: why have there been two occassions on this board lately where people have suggested BigJon help with my software? No offense to Jon or anything, but if I wanted to make the aforementioned feature work, don't you think I can figure it out on my own? Even if I needed help with something Flash-related, I can find additional hands if necessary. Thanks for your understanding. Now, in regards to the logo customizations, no, I don't have any plans in making custom logos an option for either the opening logo or the digital message board. Number one, it would take too much development time to create a customizable "opening" logo board feature that won't be seen for any more than five seconds. Number two, regarding the digital message board, you just can't fit a whole lot of text on it and--I've said this more times than necessary--each individual character has to be animated one frame at a time. Besides, I don't just tell Flash to put the words "FAMILY FEUD" up there. I have to manually insert each character one at a time using a special font set I created to make the words display correctly. Case and point, there's just too many limitations to have a simple interface for everyone to customize these logos. ...I could possibly have the digital side work but without animating. And trust me, if I do that, I'll get 100 e-mails telling me something like, "you forgot to make the message board animate." I know I'm probably coming off as frustrated. I'm really not. I guess I'm a little disappointed of the response I've received from this thread. My intent was to give you all an insight into the next phase of Family Feud. Instead, it's turned out to be a "don't forget to add this or that" forum. It's not everyone doing it and Grey, it's not you despite the above quoted statement. Most programmers that do freebie work on the side, such as yours truly, keep to themselves and release software only when ready with little to no update on what's going on. This is why they do it that way. I'm not going to change the updates I bring. I just think you should know how it sounds to me.

They started flashing the "$10,000" graphic at the beginning of Combs' second season on Family Feud. (1989) Clearly they were experementing with which graphic to use, sometimes it was white, sometimes yellow, or even white inside a slender blue oval with a yellow border.

Hey Todd, I just wanted to put in my two-cents here. I certainly don't want to speak for you, but I have a brief comment to make to everyone: I know all of us are excited about all of this fantastic software and anxious to see updates and new games. And I know many people have their own ideas on changes and want to roll up their sleeves and help out. Todd's stuff is so incredibly good, it's certainly easy to get spoiled and beg for more! But I just want everyone to stop and remember the true reason this software and this web site are here in the first place. I believe it's because this is a personal labor-of-love for Todd. This is a creative outlet for him. If you've ever worked on a project, hobby or a job that gave you a tremendous feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment, then you understand what this is to Todd. And if you've ever been in that situation, you know you ask for help when you need it or when you're ready for it. But you basically really want to work it out yourself! That's part of the satisfaction. I think it's great that so many people want to pitch in and I'm sure there are many excellent programmers on this board (I'm certainly not one of them!). But I truly believe that in a "funny" way, Todd sometimes welcomes the things that DON'T work, because he enjoys meeting the challenge and coming up with the solution. Even though I don't know him personally (and probably never will), there's no question in my mind that he's a perfectionist who takes great pride in his work, who's in the top of his field in what he does and who's work is among the best you'll find anywhere. I'm not saying it's wrong to offer help. I'm just asking everyone to remember what this is to Todd and be respectful of that. Thanks. Don't take this the wrong way: why have there been two occassions on this board lately where people have suggested BigJon help with my software? No offense to Jon or anything, but if I wanted to make the aforementioned feature work, don't you think I can figure it out on my own? I know you mention for your release of Match Game that you'd probably be using remixed and original cues for the music in the game (which reminds me how is that working out for you so far?) Which got me thinking maybe in Family Feud there could be a toggle to change the diffrent kinds of cues that were used in the game and maybe you could add remixed and original cues in there too.

Hi Todd and all,
I am a new user so this is my first post.
But I have some ideas that would make the FFPS and FFC versions of the Feud games great so it would be more like the real show.
One thing would be that for the Combs' version, the double buzz for the try-again in the Fast Money game currently used is for the Dawson version. The actual Combs' version can be found at the International Game Show SFX site.
Another would be that if you want, you could add a feature which would, if you were to initiate a commercial break (which would be good for your own shows), play the commercial music and turn the board into the digital FF (Also used for The Fast Money Board)logo (like in the Dawson version, don't know about the Combs version). For Combs, you could just play the music, if they didn't turn the board in that version.
And I don't know if this would be possible, but for the Combs version, could you make the animation for animating the feud digital board logo a little faster. Because on my computer this animation is slow, i don't know if it's just my computer. But I'm just curious if it could go faster.
BTW Folks, for the Christmas shows of the Combs version (don't know about the Dawson version), the big digital board read "Merry X-mas" with some symbols also, with yellow letters over the black background, when it was inverted with black letters on yellow it read the normal "Family Feud" logo.
Those are my suggestions.
Todd, you always make great games, at your discretion of course, use my suggestions. I really enjoy playing them. They are sub-par high quality. You're really going out of your way and going above and beyond the call of duty by doing this for free.
If it's ok with you, I'd like to use your game at public access tv, but of course I guess, I would have to contact Goodson-Todman/Freemantle for the rights. But then again some people suggested that you could do Feud for public access TV, but only if it's ok with you.
I will always enjoy your games.
Hope to hear from all you guys soon.
Take it easy.
Thanks so much, Chris

Thanks, Chris.
I'll try to answer/comment all your questions/comments.
The double-buzz used for Fast Money was an oversight on my part. I had actually created the sound effect but used the wrong one when I finally released the software. If it makes you feel any better, they did use that sound effect early on in the Comb's Feud run.
The idea of commercial breaks has been brought up several times before. So I'll ask you to think about the same question I've brought up whenever someone mentions commercial break cues. How could this feature possibly be used? Are you going to cut to a commercial during the company Christmas party?
Concerning the speed of various animations in Flash, it's hard for me to get this one 100% for every computer. The speed of it works great on my 1,800 MHz computer at home but terrible on my old 400 MHz laptop. I aim the speed at a computer running at 1,000 MHz. Sometimes, though, I have to compromise speed for other visual concerns sometimes: if the sequencing lights on the blue game board didn't animate then the digital board would work much better. But when I left the sequencing lights out of he '76 version, people complained.
Concerning using this software in a public broadcast, that's going to be your call. I would recommend at least trying your best to prevent the Family Feud logos from making it on air.
Thanks for writing such a well-developed message and for being so polite. Have a great day.
